Our client is seeking an experienced and qualified Commercial Motor Technician to work at their Workshop Department in Hatfield, Herts.
Working as part of a large motor fleet company you will be responsible for servicing & repairing motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
Duties will include:
To service, adjust and repair vehicles, components and accessories including removal and refitting in a safe, proper and economical manner using equipment provided.
To diagnose faults and test vehicles utilising equipment available and using recognised test procedures and techniques. Including road testing where deemed necessary. To drive in a manner within the parameters of the law. To follow operator’s license process and procedure to safe guard the company’s license.
To ensure that under no circumstances should any radio/telephone equipment which may be fitted to vehicles be switched on and/or listened to.
To observe, recognise and report on defects and/or symptoms of impending failure. Identification of any additional defects found while carrying out instructed repair/s should be brought to the Chargehand or Workshop Foreman’s attention.
To order from the parts department all necessary replacement parts, once authorised, ensuring that no parts are fitted to vehicles other than those required to complete the work.
To interpret technical service information and data from manuals, bulletins and or computer files and data. Implement by applying correct techniques.
To ensure at all times that equipment and tools are kept in a clean, safe condition and to report any shortages or damaged/faulty equipment to the Workshop Supervisor/Controller.
To be in possession of a comprehensive hand tool kit and a full driving licence.
Successful candidates must have a good level of industry knowledge, good diagnostic skills, City & Guilds 1 & 2 in Motor Studies or equivalent NVQ levels 2 & 3. Good communication skills and a proactive and flexible outlook are essential. MOT Testing experience would be desirable.
